Coastal Dance Centre Announces the
2014-2015 Boys Dance Scholarship Auditions
What is the Coastal Dance Centre’s 2014-2015 Boys Dance Scholarship Program?
Coastal Dance Centre is delighted to announce the launching of the 2014-2015 Boys’ Scholarship Dance Program as a way to make ballet accessible to boys in the area. The Boys Scholarship Program hopes to draw students from the Horry and Georgetown counties and surrounding region and from all areas of interest: dance, musical theater, gymnastics or team athletics.
A select number of boys will be accepted into this tuition-free program which will provide weekly technique classes in beginning and intermediate ballet, partnering, jazz and character dance. The training program is also designed to enhance athletic skills, flexibility, and strength.
Interested students will be accepted by audition. No prior dance experience is required.
Program participants will have the opportunity to study dance year-round under the instruction of Coastal Dance Centre’s resident faculty and with guest faculty who will come to teach in Coastal Dance Centre’s summer program and in master classes throughout the school year.
Participants will also have the opportunity to perform through Coastal Dance Centre’s performing company, the Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre, as well as take part in numerous community-based performances.
Several alumni from the Coastal Dance Centre’s Boys’ Scholarship Dance Program have been accepted into prestigious summer and year round dance training programs in the nation. These students from the program have been recognized for special achievements, including garnering significant honors in the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), the world’s largest international student ballet scholarship competition. At the 2007 YAGP New York City International Finals, Coastal Dance Centre male soloist, Bailey Moon, from Georgetown, captured the Third Place award in the YAGP Classical Dance Category, Junior Age Division. He has since then enjoyed scholarship grants from Walnut Hill School for the Arts for his 4-year high school education, summer programs at The Harid Conservatory, National Ballet School of Canada and the San Francisco Ballet School. Bailey graduated last May from New York University with a degree in Dance and Communications. Another, Coastal Dance Centre alumnus, Anson Zwingelberg, from Myrtle Beach, will be on his second year of studies at The Julliard School in New York City, also on full scholarship. This month, Coastal Dance Centre scholarship student, Brock Fowler, from Forestbrook / Myrtle Beach, will join the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities Dance Program as a junior high school student.
