Dance Programs
A beginning student joining the school for the first time would be placed in the Recreational School Program and as the student advances in training, the student is able to audition for the Pre-Professional and Performance Program.

Placement in these programs is done according to age, experience, and ability. Auditions for acceptance in the Pre-Professional Program are usually held in the class being entered, unless a special audition is required. Auditions are held throughout the year.

The Recreational School Program

The Recreational School Program offers a wide range of classes for students who wish to take dance for exercise, coordination, discipline and fun; and in the process students achieve an understanding and appreciation of the art form. Students meet only once or twice a week and prepare for the annual year-end performance in June.

The Pre-Professional and Performance Program

The Pre-Professional Division's mission is to prepare students for acceptance to dance companies or university dance programs in the future. Training under the Pre-Professional Division coincides with the training in the Ballet Performance Program. Students who are invited are those who possess attributes that are generally considered requisite for professional accomplishments in classical ballet. The students are accepted on a trial basis throughout the year and are evaluated by technical development, talent, and artistic merit.

Participation in the classes in preparation for the Nutcracker and Spring productions of the Performance Program are required.

Students in the Pre-Professional Division who are invited to compete are encouraged to take private lessons and prepare to compete as soloists in the Youth America Grand Prix.

Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre

Students audition for placement in the Performance Program which is under the school’s performing company, the Coastal Youth Ballet Theatre. Once accepted, the student is required to attend a number of classes and rehearsals a week. The focus is on intense training involving technique classes and many hours of rehearsals in preparation for performances and competitions. Excellent attendance and a high degree of commitment are necessary to remain in this program.

How to get accepted in the Program:
Students interested in the Performance Program are auditioned for placement. A student currently enrolled in the Recreational School Program can audition for acceptance in the Pre-Professional and Performance Program. Students are also accepted in the Program based on the teacher's recommendation. Students who audition or were recommended are placed in the appropriate levels according to age and ability.

Members are accepted in the following levels:
Junior Apprentice Level – ideally at ages 7 - 9 yrs
Apprentice Level – ideally at ages 10 and up

Junior Company Level - for ages 10 – 16 yrs
Senior Company Level - for ages 13  - 17 yrs

Audition Schedule:
Auditions are generally held in May before the school’s year-end culminating performance. There is a $20.00 audition fee. Check out the calendar of events in the month of May for the scheduled audition date.
