SANDRA BURNHAM Ballet Faculty Ms. Sandra Burnham received her RAD training in Yorkshire England. At the age of 16, she danced with “Ballet For All”, an education unit of the Royal Ballet. Following this, a contract was offered to dance in Paris, France, with the famous “Bluebell Girls” at the Paris Lido, where she stayed for 7 years. After working in New York as a television production assistant, she returned to England to open her ballet school, to which she dedicated 23 years. Many pupils went on to gain scholarships and places at England’s most prestigious vocational schools including the Royal Ballet School. Due to the success of her school, Ms. Sandra was invited to become a Graded Examiner and Tutor for the Royal Academy of Dance, a position which she has held for the past 19 years. She currently lives in Columbia, South Carolina where she teaches on a private basis. Her passion in life is to visit California. |
TRISHA KENNEDY Ballet Faculty and CYBT Ballet Mistress Trisha Kennedy was born and raised in Manila, Philippines. Her dance training was primarily in the Philippines with the Cultural Center of the Philippines Dance School (CCPDS). The CCPDS is the professional training ground of Ballet Philippines, the premier professional dance company in the Philippines. She was a CCPDS scholar for five years which led to an apprenticeship with Ballet Philippines. Trisha trained in classical ballet with Noordin Jumalon, Perry Sevidal, Gina Katigbak, Victor Ursabia, Cecile Sicangco, Nonoy Froilan and William Morgan. She also trained in Modern ballet with Agnes Locsin. Trisha has performed with Ballet Philippines in various productions both classical ballet and modern ballet. While with Ballet Philippines, Trisha worked professionally with acclaimed ballet and modern dance artists and choreographers. She began teaching in 1997 with the CCPDS prior to teaching in the United States. Aside from dance teaching, Trisha Kennedy currently works as an account executive with Qantum Radio. Last June 2008, Trisha and her husband Matt, started an insurance business, Keneddy Insurance Associates, LLC,here in Myrtle Beach. |
KAREN MATA Ballet Faculty and CYBT Ballet Mistress Karen was born in the Philippines and migrated to the United States with her family when she was 16 years old. Her mother, Liza Mata, who owned and was director of two dance schools in the Philippines, was her primary ballet teacher. Karen has had extensive training and performance opportunities particularly in ballet. Prior to her move to the United States, she has had the opportunity to perform with the Philippine Ballet Theatre. She has done all the Royal Academy of Dance Grades examinations garnering "Distinction" and "Honours" marks as well as a Distinction mark for her Australian Ballet Syllabus Examination. She was a consistent finalist at the Youth America Grand Prix International Student Ballet and Contemporary Competitions in 2003-2005 that has qualified her to compete in the final round in New York City. She has attended summer intensives at the Washington Ballet School in Washingaton D.C., Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and at The Art of Classical Ballet in Pompano Beach, Florida. Karen is presently training with Magaly Suarez and Ibis Montoto and performs for the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami in Florida. |
SAYRAH CODELLA Baby Ballet, Tap and Jazz Sayrah began dancing at the age of three and started her teaching career at age nine by beoming an assistant. At age 15 she was teaching her own baby ballet and tap classes. Sayrah continued her dance training at local studios, competition workshops and by acceptance into several intensive summer programs such as Steps on Broadway, Columbia Conservatory of Dance, International Dance School at IBC, Making Waves and Peridance NYC. Born artistic soul soul, Sayrahhas explored and enjoys all aspects of the performing arts including film, voice, theatre and music. She promotes adaptability by being well rounded dancer in classical and contemporarystyles of dance. Her current "in one pointe shoe' solo from the song entitled 'X-Amount of Words' by Blue October exhibits a beautiful blend of her extensive training and talent as a choreographer. With an outstanding natural talent, she was an award winning soloist and dance company member at prestigous competitions. Sayrah continuesto performin several community venues of theatre, dance, art and music. Her first 'paying' professional job occured at age 15 when she recruited three other dancers, choreographed 12 dances, designed costumes, and conducted rehearsals within two week time period for an Elvis tribute artist. Sayrah enjoys sharing her skills with others and the challenges of the stage. She looks forward to a life long career as a renowned choreographer and master teacher. |

HOWARD BURNHAM Drama & Ballet History, Master Teacher Mr. Burnham was educated at Clayesmore School, Dorset, and at the University College in the University of Durham, where he read Modern History. He has worked as an actor, educator and museum curator. In 1973 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, London. He began performing his acclaimed dramatic monologues in 1981 for the first Helmsley Arts Festival, when he depicted John Aubrey, the 17th century antiquary and gossip. Subsequent one-man shows has featured Lewis Carroll, Edward Lear, Charles Dickens, Laurence Sterne, "the Unfortunate Doctor Dodd" (Shakespeare's first anthologist), and Thomas Hardy. Howard's American programs have included Lord Cornwallis. He filmed the role of the earl for the BBC2/PBS series "Rebels and Redcoats." Johnny Burgoyne and Saratoga plays regularly at Bunker Hill, and Saratoga. He is noted for his Shakespeare and Dickens characterizations, which are popular with high schools and colleges. He is on the Approved Artist Roster of the South Carolina Arts Commission and a Literary Resident of the Richland County Public Library. Mr. Burnham does the Drama workshops / master classes at Coastal Dance Centre where he recently taught drama, story telling and ballet history at the 2007 and 2008 CDC Drama Summer Workshop. |

CHRISTIE KARAVAN Tap Christie Karavan is a dancer, teacher, director and choreographer. Ms. Karavan is certified by the Dance Masters of America and the Cecchetti Council of America. Her most recent productions include choreographer for “Sweet Charity” and “Forever Plaid” for Coastal Carolina University. Ms. Karavan continues her tap training through The Chicago Human Rhythm Project, The N. C. Rhythm Tap Festival and classes in NYC. |

VIVIENNE BEWS-SULKOSKI Musical Theater and Myokinetics Vivienne began classical training at age nine, and became a professional dancer at the age of 18, performing throughout her native country, England, until her marriage in 1968. She then directed her own school for 10 years, before moving to the South of London. At Elmhurst Ballet School, Surrey, she developed the Musical Theatre 3 year program and served as Head of Musical Theatre .During this time, Vivienne was also invited to become a Children's Grade Examiner and ultimately, a Major International Examiner for the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. She was also invited to adjudicate and teach at Festivals throughout the UK. In 1991 she remarried and relocated in USA. In recent years Vivienne has organized Examination tours for the Royal Academy of Dance, UK., and was official host of their Summer Program in California for two consecutive years. She has lectured and taught extensively throughout USA, Canada, and Europe, and has worked with the Company Dancers of Miami City Ballet. During recent months she has worked with DPHS, and Valencia College, Orlando, and has presented her work to the FDEO conference in West Palm Beach. Vivienne is also a fully licensed therapist specializing in the field of neuromuscular therapy. Realizing the body's amazing capacity to regenerate healthy muscle tissue, this inspired her to devise and create the 'Myokinetics' program to assist young dancers to reach maximum flexibility and strength... without risk of injury. This program - along with 'hands on therapy' - has proved invaluable to patients suffering with chronic injury, and disabilities. With this in mind she adapted the exercises and stretches used in 'Myokinetics for the Dancer', to help patients reduce pain and increase flexibility through 'Myokinetics in a Chair' and 'Myokinetics Aqua Therapy'. |
IVONNE LEMUS Ballet Ivonne Lemus began her dance studies at the Provintial Arts School in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, and was selected to continue her training at the National School of Ballet in Havana, Cuba. She graduated from the National School of Ballet in 1986 and joined the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, where she was trained by Alicia Alonso, Josefina Mendez, Loipa Araufo and Laura Alonso. Lemus was promoted to soloist in 1996 and later joined the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in Canada as a soloist. She has appeared in both classic and contemporary works, including Swan Lake, Giselle, Coppelia, Les Sylphides, La Fille Mal Gardee, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, Paquita, Raymonda Theme and Variations, Apollo, Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping Beauty and Carmina Burana. Lemus has also participated in numerous international ballet festivals through Ballet Nacional de Cuba – Festival Cervantino Mexico, Arts Festival Scotland, Summer Festival Spain -- and has performed in the U.S. and in more than 30 other countries including those in Europe, South America, Australia and Asia. As a teacher and coach, Lemus has taught at Coastal Dance Centre in Murrells Inlet,South Carolina, Jose Mateo Ballet Theater and most recently, at Boston Ballet. In 2006, she coached an International Ballet Competition gold medalist. She joined the Orlando Ballet School at the Patel Conservatory as a main ballet instructor in 2007. |
REYNERIS REYES Ballet Reyneris Reyes began his dance training at the Vocational School of Art in Pinar de Rio, Cuba and continued at the National Ballet School in Havana. He joined the National Ballet of Cuba in 1993 as a member of the corps de ballet, was promoted to first soloist in 1996 and principal dancer in 1998. Among the major roles he performed in Cuba were Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake, Albrecht in Giselle, and Basilio in Don Quixote. Reyes joined Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet in 1999 as a soloist and was promoted to principal dancer in 2002. His repertory in Winnipeg included George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante, Romeo in Rudi van Dantzig's Romeo and Juliet, the Wolf in Mark Godden's Dracula, and Bluebird in The Sleeping Beauty. With Boston Ballet, Reyes has appeared in Marius Petipa's The Sleeping Beauty (Prince Florimund and Bluebird), Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker (Snow King, Prince), John Cranko's The Taming of the Shrew (Petruchio), August Bournonville's La Sylphide (Gurn), Sir Frederick Ashton's La Fille mal gardée (Colas), William Forsythe's In the middle, somewhat elevated, Jiri Kylian's Sarabande, James Kudelka's Cinderella, Lucinda Childs' Ten Part Suite and Val Caniparoli's Lambarena. Reyes has toured extensively in Europe, the United States, and Latin America and is the recipient of the Cuban National Arts Medal , the highest artistic honor in Cuba. |
