At Coastal Dance Centre, we highly recommend that students learn Classical Ballet. A sound ballet technique provides an easy transition into other forms of dance. Ballet trains the
body carefully, developing strength, control, coordination and line.

* Tiny Tots - for 2 year olds
* Baby Ballet Classes for 3 and 4 year olds
* Ballet - Tap Combination Classes (3-4 and 5-7)
* RAD Syllabus Classes (Pre-Primary - Grade 8, Intermediate Foundation to Advanced)
* Open Ballet Technique Classes for Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Levels
* Recreational Ballet for Teens and Adult Beginners

We offer Pre-school level dance classes, RAD Ballet Syllabus classes from Pre-Primary to Advanced level along with Open Ballet Technique classes for the older and teenage
students.

Pre-School Dance Division
These classes are geared towards the young students.

It teaches the students body awareness, a starter vocabulary of traditional ballet steps and movements, concepts of music and rhythm, development of creative imagination and free
movement, social and emotional development, listening, understanding, concept of direction, position and traveling movements, understanding of performance, self confidence and
self esteem.

>Pre-Primary Ballet Class
The class introduces the very basics of classical ballet - body awareness, style and poise, an introductory vocabulary of ballet steps and movement, dance dynamics, concepts of
music, free interpretation through movement and music, development of artistic expression through imagination and creative movement, social and emotional development, listening
skills, fine and gross motor skills, concepts of direction and position, physical fitness, grooming and presentation skills, self-confidence and self -esteem.

* This class uses the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus and is taught by a Royal Academy of Dance fully qualified teacher.
* Students in this level are encouraged to do the Presentation Classes which is not yet an examination but a warm-up to the next level's examination format.

>The Primary Ballet Class
* The syllabus used is the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus with instruction from a Royal Academy of Dance fully qualified teacher
* At this level, students are offered the opportunity to take the Royal Academy of Dance Examinations.

Children who participate in the Royal Academy of Dance Examinations always display a lovely standard and the children show a great love and joy of dance as they begin to
strengthen, understand and improve as they work towards their examination goal.


The Grades Division
From ages 7 years and over:
> Grade 1
> Grade 2
> Grade 3
> Grade 4
> Grade 5

These classes are a natural progression through the Royal Academy of Dance examination Syllabus. The syllabus consists of three different sections:

The Classical work is the foundation and the most important part of the syllabi.

The Free Movement section incorporates movements in common with other dance styles such as Natural Movement, Contemporary based dance and Greek Dance.

Character dance is the theatrical presentation of national dance using original ethnic dance and music which has been freely adapted for the theatre. The three styles - Hungarian,
Russian and Polish - were selected because of their historic importance in the development of the traditional full length classical Ballets.

The Higher Grades Division:
From Ages 11 years and over
" Grade 6
" Grade 7
" Grade 8 Award

The Higher Grades Syllabus can be taught in conjunction with the Vocational Grades Syllabus or as an alternative to the Vocational Grades Syllabus. The Higher Grades Syllabus
consists of three sections:

" The Classical work is the foundation and the most important part of the syllabi. Music has been arranged and adapted from many traditional full length classical ballets.

" The Free Movement section concentrates on the use of the upper body and elevation with the use of a large silk scarf.

" The Character section is based on the Polish style and the emphasis is on 'court style' dancing based on traditional productions of ballets such as Swan Lake and Sleeping
Beauty.

No Pointe work is required for this Syllabus.

The Vocational Grades Syllabus is the continuation of classical ballet with the introduction of Pointe work for females. These Syllabi have been designed to give the necessary
training to students wishing to study seriously with the possible view to follow a career in dance or dance related subjects.

Students wishing to study the Vocational Grades Syllabus should have the type of body which can respond to demanding study, that is, a relatively proportioned and flexible
physique with a good degree of rotation.

Open Ballet Classes:
" Beginners for Teens and Adults
" Intermediate / Advanced for Teens and Adults

Classes are designed to enhance each student's experience to the fullest in a stimulating and creative atmosphere. Various levels of training experience are accommodated from
Beginning to Advanced.

The Pointe Class
" For Intermediate Foundation and higher level classes

It is imperative that students who take this class are at least at an Intermediate Foundation technique level, otherwise the risk of injury increases and progress cannot be maintained.

The Variations Class
" For Intermediate Foundation and higher level classes

Classical Variations are solo dances learned from the classical repertoire and 20th century choreography. This gives the students the opportunity to learn more about the style,
history and artistic demands of the repertoire being presented to them.

The Conditioning Class
" For Intermediate Foundation and higher level classes

Conditioning classes allow the students to experience a revitalizing body sculpting workout. This class is designed to provide students with a non-impact method of training and is an
excellent way to gain abdominal strength, flexibility and long, lean muscles.



For the Pre-School level -

>The Baby Ballet Class and The Ballet -Tap Combo Class
For 3 - 6 year-olds. Classes meet once a week.

This class is geared towards the very young student. Children dance together while focusing on rhythm, movement, music and fun! Students in the Baby Ballet and Ballet -Tap
Combo classes learn dance moves focusing on rhythm, creative movement, dynamics and coordination.

>Pre-Primary Ballet Class
Designed for students with ages 4 ½ - 6 years old. Classes meet once a week.

This class uses the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus and is taught by a Royal Academy of Dance fully qualified teacher. The class introduces the very basics of classical ballet -

Classes meet twice a week and is taught using the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus with instruction from a Royal Academy of Dance fully qualified teacher. It teaches the
students basic movements of classical ballet technique - body awareness, style and poise, a starter vocabulary of traditional ballet steps and movements, dance dynamics,
concepts of music and rhythm, development of artistic expression through creative imagination and free movement, social and emotional development , listening, understanding and
memory skills, fine and gross motor skills, self confidence and self esteem, concept of direction, position and traveling movements, understanding of performance, physical fitness,
grooming and presentation skills, self confidence and self esteem.

At this level, students are offered the opportunity to take the Royal Academy of Dance Examinations. This opportunity will encourage to develop the correct muscular strength,
artistic quality, ease and flow of movement required for this level and prepares the students correctly for more difficult steps they will find when they progress to the next grade.

JAZZ

>Beginning Jazz
This class focuses on the vocabulary of jazz steps, technique and movement as well as preparing a routine for performance.

>Intermediate Jazz
This jazz class trains the intermediate dancer to execute more difficult turns, leaps, and other progressions. Preparation for performance of a routine is also included in this class.

>Advanced Jazz
More advanced styles and complex technique continues to be developed in this class. The pre-requisite for jazz is a strong ballet background. This class also prepares and performs a routine for performance.

LYRICAL

An expressive style of jazz with a strong foundation in ballet, lyrical dance can either be modern based or jazz based depending on the dancer's strengths and choreographer's preference. Lyrical blends
sustained, controlled movement from the ballet technique with freedom, power and dynamics of jazz and modern. Lyrical dance can be set to contemporary or classical music. Passion, emotion and
expression is the core of lyrical movement. Pre-requisites for lyrical classes are intermediate jazz and ballet training.

The Modern/Contemporary Class

Modern Dance is a vital dance form that is increasingly incorporated into ballet choreography. With technique less restrictive than classical ballet, Modern is the perfect jumping off point for self-expression.
Modern dancers go beyond performing movement; they become the movement through intense kinesthetic.

TAP

>Pre-Tap
This is a performance-based class, which introduces the beginning student to basic tap technique and rhythm steps. No prior training necessary.

>Beginning Tap
Dancers must have one year basic tap experience. This class continues to focus on vocabulary of tap steps, technique and movement as well as preparing a routine for performance.

>Intermediate/Advanced Tap
Students registering for this class should be familiar with strong basic tap technique - both center and progressive moves. The student is expected to execute cramp rolls, time steps and riffs and progressive
turns across the floor. Students should be working on simple pullbacks, wings and introduction to syncopated rhythm. Students should have a good understanding of rhythms, music and sound quality.
