Pre-School Dance Classes: Baby Ballet, RAD* Pre-Primary Ballet and RAD Primary Ballet

These programs are a prelude to formal ballet instruction and introduce children to music, movement and
rhythm through a structured progression that stresses creativity and group interaction. The pre-school dance
program is divided into:

a) Baby Ballet for 2-3 years old - This class is geared towards the very young student. Toddlers ages 2 to 3
dance together while focusing on rhythm, movement, music and fun! Baby Ballet students learn dance moves
and develop healthy bodies and coordination. Classes meet once a week.
b) RAD Pre-Primary Ballet for 4-5 years old - Children dance and move to a stimulating environment focused on
creativity, group interaction and the joy of self - expression. Classes meet once a week. At the end of the
Pre-Primary Ballet, children will have been introduced to ballet steps and terminology and the basics of dance.
Children in this level are encouraged to do the Presentation Classes which is not yet an examination but a
warm-up to the next level's examination format. They are also eligible to move to Primary Ballet of the Royal
Academy of Dance levels.
c) RAD Primary Ballet for 5-6 years old - this syllabus introduces children to a more focused approach to the
basics of ballet. The foundation of ballet is being presented in a fun way and the children are given the
opportunity to experience doing the ballet examination. Children who are entered for exams should have had
adequate knowledge and practice of the syllabus in order to confidently demonstrate the skills learned in this
level.

Enjoy the benefits of quality dance training at Coastal Dance Centre. Classes are
designed to enhance each student's experience to the fullest in a stimulating and
creative atmosphere. Various levels of experience are accommodated, from
Beginning to Advanced.

Pointe Class

It is imperative that students take a technique class prior to doing Pointe classes,
otherwise the risk of injury increases and progress cannot be maintained.
Students who are asked to attend this class are at the Director's discretion.

Variations Class

Classical Variations are learned from the classical repertoire and 20th century
choreography. This gives the students the opportunity to be expressive and be
challenged artistically.

Modern/Contemporary Class

Modern Dance is a vital dance form that is increasingly incorporated into ballet
choreography. With technique less restrictive than classical ballet, Modern is the
perfect jumping off point for self-expression. Modern dancers go beyond
performing movement; they become the movement through intense kinesthetic.

Conditioning

Conditioning classes allow the students to experience a revitalizing body
sculpting workout. Conditioning classes are designed to provide students with a
non-impact method of training and is an excellent way to gain abdominal
strength, flexibility and long, lean
muscles.
